As a new attorney, I am excited to step into this role with Weitz & Luxenberg, a firm dedicated to seeking justice for its clients.
Andrew Backing joined Weitz & Luxenberg in 2021 as an associate attorney and works on the opioids litigation team in the Detroit office.
Mr. Backing earned his J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law in 2021, graduating summa cum laude. In the course of his studies, Mr. Backing completed the King Scholar program, an honors program at the law college. He also earned Jurisprudence Achievement Awards for earning the top grade in eight courses: research, writing, and analysis; payment systems; intellectual property and entrepreneurial law clinic; bankruptcy; corporate finance; mortgage finance; contract drafting; and the King Scholar seminar. Before law school, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Central Michigan University with cum laude honors.
Prior to law school, Mr. Backing worked in manufacturing, giving him a firsthand perspective into some of the issues blue collar workers face. During law school, Mr. Backing interned at the Ingham County Probate Court. He also worked as a student clinician at Michigan State University’s Intellectual Property and Entrepreneurial Law Clinic, where he worked with small business owners regarding their intellectual property management and other legal needs.
In his spare time, Mr. Backing enjoys playing video games, reading, and relaxing with his pets and family.
