2. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account data — name, email address, password, and (for attorneys) bar credentials and profile content;
- Inquiries — messages sent through contact forms, Q&A posts, reviews, and booking requests;
- Payment data — processed by our payment provider (Stripe); we store only transaction metadata, never full card numbers;
- Communications — emails and support correspondence with us.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data — pages viewed, searches run, links clicked, referring URLs;
- Device data — IP address, browser type, operating system, screen size;
- Cookies and similar technologies — described in our Cookie Policy.
Information from public sources
Attorney directory profiles are compiled from public records — state bar registries, court admission rolls and similar official sources. This is professional, public-record information about licensed attorneys, maintained under our editorial policy.
3. How we use information
- to operate the directory, search and matching features;
- to create and manage accounts, subscriptions and billing;
- to route inquiries to the attorneys you choose to contact;
- to maintain safety — fraud prevention, spam filtering, abuse detection;
- to improve the service through aggregate analytics;
- to send transactional messages, and — with your consent — product updates you can opt out of at any time;
- to comply with law and enforce our Terms of Use.
4. How we share information
We do not sell consumer contact details to lead brokers or call centers. We share personal information only:
- with attorneys you contact — when you submit an inquiry or booking, that attorney receives your message and contact details;
- with service providers — hosting, payments, email delivery and analytics vendors bound by data-processing agreements;
- for legal reasons — when required by law, subpoena or to protect rights, safety and the integrity of the service;
- in a business transfer — if we merge, are acquired or sell assets, with notice to affected users.
5. Your rights and choices
- Access & portability — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- Correction — fix inaccurate account or profile data;
- Deletion — request deletion of your account and associated personal data;
- Marketing opt-out — unsubscribe links are included in every marketing email.
Exercise any of these by emailing privacy@lawyerslisted.com from the address associated with your account. We respond within 30 days.
6. California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents additionally have the right to:
- know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, use and disclose;
- delete personal information, subject to statutory exceptions;
- correct inaccurate personal information;
- opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information — see Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information;
- not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as opt-out requests. Authorized agents may submit requests with proof of authorization.
7. Attorney public-record data
Directory listings of licensed attorneys are based on publicly available professional information. Attorneys may claim their profile to correct or supplement it. Requests to correct public-record data should go to editorial@lawyerslisted.com; note that licensure and disciplinary records reflect the official registry and cannot be edited on request.
8. Data retention
Account data is kept while your account is active and for up to 90 days after deletion (backup cycles). Transaction records are retained as required by tax and accounting law. Public-record directory data is retained as long as it remains part of the public record.
9. Security
We protect personal information with TLS encryption in transit, encryption at rest for sensitive fields, access controls and audit logging. No system is perfectly secure; report suspected vulnerabilities to security@lawyerslisted.com.
10. Children
The service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact privacy@lawyerslisted.com and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes are announced on this page at least 14 days before they take effect, with the “last updated” date revised above.
