Across Pennsylvania, Brian Vertz is viewed as a powerful advocate for his family law clients. For more than 25 years, Brian has zealously represented clients in complex child support cases, high net worth divorces, prenup enforcement cases, difficult custody disputes, and appeals up to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. With his MBA background and financial training, Brian develops effective strategies for family law cases involving business valuation, executive compensation, double dipping, family trusts, prenuptial agreements, business succession planning, and other advanced issues.

Brian is a partner of Pollock Begg, a Pittsburgh-based firm dedicated solely to the practice of family law. Using a team approach to meet the needs of clients from all walks of life, Pollock Begg resolves the financial and personal aspects of divorce, property division, alimony, child support, spousal support, settlement, prenuptial agreements and appeals.

Brian is deeply committed to improving family law practice as an elected Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Brian is a past president and current officer of AAML’s Pennsylvania Chapter and co-chair of two national committees. He has been a planner and speaker for the AAML/AICPA National Conference on Divorce.

He is also Secretary, a Director and a Lifetime Member of the AAML Foundation, the charitable arm of AAML which makes annual grants to support organizations helping children and families coping with the effects of divorce, domestic violence and parental impairment.

Brian has been elected to the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Family Law Section Council and appointed to its Executive Committee. For decades he has been a fixture on the stage, teaching family law topics for a statewide audience. Twice he has been invited to teach judges at the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges.

Brian has received the recognition of his peers for professional achievement. Since 2005, Brian has been listed as a Super Lawyer, and he is listed as one of the Top 50 Lawyers - Pittsburgh. Brian is rated AV-Preeminent by Martindale Hubbell. He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America for family law in every edition since 2010 and was named the Family Law “Lawyer of the Year” in Pittsburgh by Best Lawyers in 2019.

Brian is active in the legal and professional communities. He has served on boards and committees for the Pennsylvania and Allegheny County bar associations. He is the founder of Legally Speaking Toastmasters, a Pittsburgh chapter. He was an officer and trustee of the Crafton Public Library. He is active in pro bono and charitable causes through the Allegheny Bar Foundation, AAML Foundation, and Pittsburgh Pro Bono Partnership.

Brian is a prolific writer and speaker. He is the author of a best-selling legal reference book, "Divorce Taxation." Since 2006, he has presented Family Law Update, one of the most-watched family law programs of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute (Now a part of the Pennsylvania Bar Association). Brian is also an author of Slicing Up the Pie: Equitable Distribution in Pennsylvania; Business Valuation and Divorce; Tax Consequences and Estate Issues in Divorce and Drafting Marital Settlement Agreements, as well as Fundamentals of Family Law (since 1994). Brian earned his degrees from the University of Michigan (B.A. English 1988), the University of Pittsburgh School of Law (J.D. 1992), and the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business (MBA 1991).
