Charles R. Brown is a founding member and senior partner of Fields & Brown. Mr. Brown began developing his litigation skills in the 1980s by working as an attorney for the Office of State Public Defender. He was lead counsel in numerous high profile trials, including several capital murder trials. In addition, Mr. Brown served as an assistant prosecuting attorney for the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office and as special prosecutor for Jackson County.
During his 37 years of experience, he has prosecuted and defended as many jury trials of all types as any attorney in Jackson County, Missouri. In 1987, Mr. Fields and Mr. Brown established Fields & Brown. As a result of his vast trial experience, Mr. Brown has been involved in most of the complex litigation matters handled by Fields & Brown during the past 25 years. Currently, Mr. Brown manages the workers’ compensation and insurance practice areas of the firm. On average, he is responsible for overseeing more than 300 open workers’ compensation and personal injury matters. As such, during the past 37 years, Mr. Brown has tried more than 100 jury trials to verdict and has conducted numerous workers’ compensation hearings. Additionally, Mr. Brown has often been asked to provide demonstrations of various trial techniques for students at the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Law.

Charles Brown is a member of the Missouri Bar Association and is admitted to practice before federal district courts and courts of appeals, including the United States Supreme Court. He has been a speaker at the Missouri Bar Annual Law Update regarding recent Workers’ Compensation decisions, and he has served on the Regional Disciplinary Committee for Jackson County. Also, he is a former Vice Chair of the Workers’ Compensation Committee of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association.
Community Involvement
Charles Brown has contributed several years of service to the Board of Directors of Camps for Kids and the Brookside Care Center for battered women. In addition, Mr. Brown serves on the advisory committee of the Kansas City Metro Junior Golf Club and participates regularly in golf events to raise funds for charitable organizations. He is also on the advisory board of the Interscholastic League Athletic Alumni Association (ILAAA). The ILAAA’s primary goal is to enrich the lives of Kansas City School District student athletes through financial, developmental, emotional, and historical support through the resources of its members. He also volunteers time at local schools tutoring, teaching and judging debates and mock trials.
