David H. Dickey, a Fellow of the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel ("ACTEC"), is one of the few attorneys from the Savannah area repeatedly selected by his peers for inclusion in Georgia Trend Magazine's LEGAL ELITE since 2003. He has also been selected by his peers to be listed in Atlanta Magazine's, Georgia Super Lawyers from 2004-present. Mr. Dickey has been listed in Best Lawyers in America (1989-present) in two separate and distinct fields "Taxation" and "Trusts & Estates." He has also been listed in the Best of the U.S. in the fields of Taxation and Estate Planning. He holds the Accredited Estate Planner designation offered by the National Association of Estate Planning Councils.
Mr. Dickey, a native of Savannah, is a partner concentrating in the areas of: income, estate and gift-tax planning; wills, trusts and estates; probate; corporations; commercial law; syndications; and the representation of professional and closely–held business and professional enterprises.
In 1974, Mr. Dickey received his undergraduate degree magna cum laude in business administration with dual majors in Accounting and in Finance from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and Phi Kappa Phi honorary society. While at AASU, he obtained his Georgia Real Estate Salesman's License. During his senior year, he was awarded the National Association of Accountants' "Outstanding Accounting Student Key." In 1977, he was graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law, where he served as a Senior Editor on the Georgia Law Review. He was a member of Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity, spearheaded the fraternity's legal research program for practicing attorneys and represented the Law School in the Student Senate. While in Athens, he was employed as a real estate salesman for Bulldog Realty. In 1977, he was also awarded a Masters of Accountancy in Taxation degree from the University of Georgia Graduate Business School. From 1979-1981, he worked as a Senior Accountant on the Family Tax Planning Team at Arthur Andersen & Co. in Atlanta. Mr. Dickey was awarded his Certified Public Accountant designation in 1981, and soon thereafter joined Oliver Maner LLP where he became a partner in 1982.
Mr. Dickey is a former president and Chairman of the Board of the Savannah Estate Planning Council and has chaired a subcommittee of the American Bar Association's Taxation Section. He has served on ACTEC's Asset Protection Committee. Mr. Dickey has served on the Board of Directors of: the Savannah Theatre Company; the Historic Savannah Foundation; the American Cancer Society; the National Association of Accountants; the First City Club; Chatham Savannah Citizen's Advocacy; the Armstrong Atlantic State University Foundation; the Candler Hospital Foundation; the St. Joseph's/Candler Foundation and the Billy Bond Memorial Scholarship Fund. He is a member of the Skidaway Island Rotary Club, the Society of Colonial Wars, the St. Andrew's Society of Savannah, the Landings Club, the Savannah Civil War Roundtable, and the Chatham Club, and has served the following organizations in the denoted capacities: the Sons of Confederate Veterans (Past Commander); the Military Order of the Stars & Bars (Past Commander); L’Alliance Francaise de Savannah (Past President); the Sons of the Revolution in the State of Georgia (Past President) and the Edward Telfair Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (Past President).
He is a graduate of Leadership Savannah, formerly served on the Development Committee of the Savannah Foundation, and is a member of the University of Georgia's President's Club and its Heritage Society. He has served as the Chairman of the Attorney's Division of the United Way of the Coastal Empire and as Education Funds Crusade Chairman of the Chatham County Division of the American Cancer Society. Mr. Dickey is a frequent lecturer who has taught estate planning and tax courses for the Chartered Life Underwriter program, the Fiduciary Law Institute of the State of Georgia, the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia and the Coastal Georgia Continuing Education Center. He has been published in several periodicals including the Estate Planning Magazine. He was formerly a member of the American Association of Attorney / Certified Public Accountants, Inc., and has been listed in Who’s Who in American Law. He has been listed in Martindale Hubbell's Register of Preeminent Lawyers. He has also served on the Small Business Council of America, Inc., a national organization representing the interests of privately-owned business and professional entities in connection with Federal Tax legislation.
