Biography

Howard R. Engle, car accidents attorney serving New York

Howard R. Engle is a member based in New York, NY. The practice focuses on Car Accidents, Construction, and Dog Bites. Howard has over 43 years of legal experience. Currently practicing at Edelman & Edelman, P.C.. Howard works from New York and takes on car accidents matters across the region.

Howard Engle, Esq. graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton with a B.A. in History, and went to law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating in 1982 with a Juris Doctor degree. In 1983 he was admitted to practice law in New York and has been handling personal injury cases exclusively since then for over thirty years. He was admitted to practice in New Jersey as well in 1999. He has handled personal injury cases in both states and has practiced in the Federal Courts of New York since 1983. In 2009, at a swearing-in ceremony in Washington, DC, with his daughter Rachel in attendance, he was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States.

Mr. Engle thrives on challenges with one goal in mind: to get the very best monetary settlement or verdict for his injured clients while never stopping his fight for them. He has successfully represented thousands of clients over a career spanning 30 years and has handled a wide variety of cases ranging from premises and car/truck accidents, to products liability cases, to building security cases and medical malpractice.

Some of his more unique million dollar plus settlements/verdicts include representing: a holocaust survivor who was run over by a runaway horse drawn carriage; a bar patron struck in the head by a cocktail shaker that flew out of a bartender's hand; a woman raped in her office after hours by a vagrant who was never caught; a Hilton Hotels guest injured during a fire evacuation by a 20 year old construction defect; and a suit by a cameraman improperly rigged by a rock climbing company who fell off a cliff.

Details matter to Mr. Engle. In his case against Gurney's Inn in Montauk, he was able to prove that the hotel secretly changed the staircase after the accident (to conform to the building code) when he compared grains of wood in two sets of photographs. He gives the same attention to detail in every case he handles.

Mr. Engle even helped established new law in the New York State Court of Appeals case, Nowlin v. City of New York, in which his client was paralyzed in a car accident because the City had placed a traffic sign in the wrong place. In that $14.3 million verdict case he helped establish new law which now holds the City of New York responsible for maintaining a state highway that runs through the five boroughs.

For Mr. Engle, no defendant corporation is too large as exemplified by his largest settlement ever achieved against one of the largest beauty products companies in the world. In that case he crisscrossed the country to depose corporate executives as he was laser focused on proving that the microwave product was dangerous by design.

Since he takes his clients cases very much to heart, knowing how important their cases are to them, he prides himself on meticulously preparing his cases and his clients to testify. Over time he develops very good working relationships with every client, who all eventually become members of his professional family and communicate with Howard on a first name basis.

In 1987 he was on trial in a personal injury case in New York County when he was lucky enough to meet the person who introduced him to his beautiful wife and is the proud father of two beautiful children, Rachel who is soon to graduate from the George Washington School of Law and his son David who has graduated with his Masters from the University of Maryland School of Business.

Howard looks forward to meeting new clients and achieving success for them.
