Jay Curts is a shareholder and member of the firm's board of directors. He was admitted to the Bar in 1988 and is licensed to practice in the State of Indiana and U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana. Jay received his undergraduate degree in Finance from the Indiana University Bloomington School of Business in 1985 and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis in 1988.
Jay joined Coots, Henke and Wheeler in 1988 as an associate attorney and since that time has concentrated his practice in both estate planning and administration, as well as business organizations and transactions. Jay's estate planning practice includes clients at every level of the estate planning spectrum from newly married couples requiring an estate planning foundation for themselves and their children to those with complex estate tax and family inheritance issues. His estate and trust administration practice includes a comprehensive approach to the administration issues, including preparation of all necessary income and transfer tax returns to maximize economic benefit for the heirs.
Jay's business organizations and transactions practice includes counsel to clients during both the formation and management of their business with attention to issues concerning business organization documentation and contract needs, and business succession planning for single owner and closely held business entities.
Jay is a past managing director of the firm and has served as President and member of the Board of Directors of PrimeLife Enrichment, Inc., a United Way agency. He has also been active as a youth travel basketball coach in the Carmel Pups program. He has served as a lecturer at the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum's Annual Estate Planning and Administration Potpourri.
