Mr. Simmons is recognized in a small group of select attorneys who have the experience and knowledge to be certified by the Arizona State Bar as a Criminal Law Specialist. The criteria, formulated by the Arizona State Bar, often takes an entire career to obtain. Mr. Simmons was able to become certified within his first decade of practice. Recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star, he takes pride in crafting superior representation, individual to each client.
A former prosecutor and recognized trial attorney, Mr. Simmons is experienced in criminal and DUI matters. He represents individuals who have been accused and charged with all types of crimes, ranging from homicide to DUIs. He has gained extensive experience and knowledge specific to DUI cases during his career, resulting in many non-DUI results through plea negotiations, and not guilty verdicts after a trial.
Prior to founding Long & Simmons Law, Mr. Simmons worked as a DUI and Criminal Defense attorney for over three years at two prominent Scottsdale firms. He served for nearly seven years at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and spending the majority of his time as a Major Crimes Prosecutor. The invaluable experience gained during his time at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office came from handling all types of misdemeanor and felony criminal cases, from DUI to homicide, including assault and drug cases.

He received numerous awards and accommodations from the Phoenix Police Department and the Maricopa County Attorney’s office for his trial advocacy and efforts to help victims of violent crime.
My Approach
I approach each case individually and am passionate about fighting for my clients and am dedicated to providing the best legal advocacy possible.
Many people are overwhelmed by the legal system and are unsure what to expect. I take the time to explain the process and address the realistic options about what sort of outcomes could be expected. I’ve found this approach gives clients a sense of control over their future, bringing peace of mind. Communicating throughout every part of the process, and answering questions as they arise, keeps everyone on the same page until the case is closed.
Spending time in the juvenile courts has made me familiar with the judges, prosecutors and procedures in the juvenile justice system. I approach juvenile defendants with dignity and respect, but also with honesty about the gravity of the choices they’ve made.
