John was born and raised in New York and then a football scholarship brought him to the University of Rhode Island—from which he graduated in 1989. After college, John accepted a position with a national insurance company as a liability claims adjuster. During his time handling claims, John realized that the liability insurance system was not designed to treat fairly people who were injured through no fault of their own. He wanted to advocate on behalf of those injured people and help them get their lives back on track.

John graduated from Albany Law School in 1995 and was thereafter admitted to practice in both New York and Massachusetts. John moved to Northampton, Massachusetts later that same year and joined a small firm where he limited his practice to personal injury law. For the past 25 years, John has dedicated his career to representing people who have been injured. The Law Offices of John P. DiBartolo, Jr. opened its first office in Easthampton in 2001. John later added offices in Greenfield in 2004 and Northampton in 2006.

John is a member of the Hampshire County Bar Association and the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys. At various times he has been a lecturer for the Massachusetts Bar Association, Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, and Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys. John has also done radio commentary for a local NPR affiliate. John currently sits on the Board of Governors for the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys and the Advisory Board of the Pioneer Valley Ballet.

John is a recipient of the Massachusetts Bar Association Community Service Award. John’s involvement with local charities has ranged from financial supporter and volunteer to board member and fundraiser. John has been involved in one capacity or another with local organizations such as: Northampton Survival Center, Safe Passage, Community Legal Aid, Pioneer Valley Ballet, Eric Carle Museum, Willpower Foundation, Inc., Northampton Community Music Center, Best Buddies, Hitchcock Center, The David Ruggles Center, and others. John also coached youth basketball and high school football for many years.

John resides in Florence with his wife, Patty, their two children and an old black Labrador Retriever.
