Biography

Meet Kenneth E. Barton III — business lawyer in Macon

Kenneth E. Barton III is a partner based in Macon, GA. The practice focuses on Business, Civil Rights, and Discrimination. Kenneth has over 11 years of legal experience. Currently practicing at Cooper, Barton & Cooper.

People love telling bad lawyer jokes and enjoy watching unscrupulous lawyers in their favorite shows and movies. For those reasons, many of us forget that we seek the help of an attorney during the most important times of our lives.

Each day, Ken attempts to use the same approach to advocating for clients as a Macon attorney that he did while teaching his students in a low-income community in Atlanta. Regardless of whether a client comes seeking advice for their business or legal assistance for a matter of a more personal nature, Ken is often thinking about that client, their needs, and how to be the advocate they need. Ken strives to explain and ensure that all of his clients truly understand the often-complex details of the law, so we are part of one team that is working toward the same goals.

An attorney’s personal investment in his clients is not enough; clients have a right to a competent lawyer. Ken has used his educational opportunities and other experiences to become the best young attorney that he can be. As a student at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., he went beyond what was required in the classroom to improve his knowledge of the law, trial skills, and drafting legal writing.

Ken is proud to have served as an intern for the Honorable Amy Totenberg of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia and as the law clerk for Chief Administrative Law Judge David Simmons of the District of Columbia Commission on Human Rights. Ken also spent time as a student attorney where he fought passionately for low-income tenants in housing disputes in the D.C. Superior Court. These and his other experiences in business, corporate law, appellate litigation, employment, and discrimination law have helped Ken develop a strong foundation as a trial attorney and legal writer.

Ken believes that his life purpose is based on the proverb that man’s obligation is to improve the lives of other men and that this obligation applies equally to society at large as well as his clients’ needs. As a native Georgian, Ken has and will continue to work hard to strengthen our communities with his work as a teacher, Eagle Scout, and volunteer in the Boy Scouts of America and Order of the Arrow.

Each day, Ken looks forward to teaming up with his clients, both old and new, to help solve their legal and business needs and being the legal support they need in some of the most important times of their lives.
