Leslie Prechtl Guy is a partner at Hinman, Howard & Kattell and a member of the firm’s Litigation, Labor and Employment, and Appellate practice groups. An experienced trial lawyer, Leslie has represented numerous healthcare providers and hospitals in defense of medical malpractice claims and in professional disciplinary proceedings. Leslie has represented many employers in discrimination and harassment lawsuits, in State and Federal Courts, the EEOC, New York State Division of Human Rights, and the Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) Review Commission. Leslie has also handled a number of labor arbitrations and is an experienced appellate attorney. Leslie also handles other complex litigation matters including plaintiff’s personal injury and employment cases.
Leslie is known for her ability to work with other attorneys and is often called on to serve as local counsel in the Northern District of New York for other law firms.
In recognition of her skills, professionalism and collegiality, Leslie has been admitted as a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and the Litigation Counsel of America.
Leslie was the lead counsel for Rowe v. Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., which established that New York funeral directors qualify as exempt professionals under New York law and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Leslie also counsels clients in all aspects of employment law. She has provided both in-person and webinar training for clients on sexual harassment, discrimination, and best practices when faced with litigation and internal employee investigations. Leslie also represents physicians and hospitals in medical malpractice actions and before the Office of Professional Medical Conduct (OPMC) and the Office of the Professions. She has provided general advice to hospitals on a variety of issues relating to patients, including the handling of guardianship proceedings for vulnerable patients needing assistance with financial and personal decision-making.
Leslie has lectured on litigation, mediation, and labor and employment topics to Chambers of Commerce and the local bar association.
In addition to her busy practice, Leslie is a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Family and Children’s Counseling Services and serves as Treasurer of the Board of the Savoca Hibbitt Resident Artists Foundation. She also serves as a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Leslie’s outstanding record of community service was recognized by the Broome County Bar Association in 2012 when she was presented with the Community Service Award.
