Nelson has over 25 years of experience in the criminal justice system in Texas. A Dallas native, Nelson started his legal career as a prosecutor in the Dallas County District Attorney's office where he tried cases ranging from DWI to Capital Murder, with the majority of his time being spent handling high-level felony offenses in District Courts.

Since 2001, Nelson has focused on criminal defense and protecting the rights of citizens accused of crimes. In both his long-time private practice and as a Dallas County Public Defender from 2007 to 2010, Nelson has fought the state at every turn to ensure that people accused of crimes in North Texas and throughout the state receive the best representation they can get.

As a solo practitioner for almost 20 years, Nelson handled cases across the state ranging from DWI to Capital Murder. He has countless jury and bench trials under his belt and has dealt with just about every type of hearing that could come up during a criminal proceeding.
