In 1962, Robert began college with aspirations of becoming a teacher. However, life had a different plan. Upon his wife's graduation, Robert resumed full-time education. Yet, the trajectory took another turn when he was drafted into the Vietnam War. Although seeking entry into the U.S. Air Force as an officer candidate, his plans shifted when he was disqualified due to a medical assessment.
This unexpected outcome prompted Robert to reconsider his future. A new opportunity presented itself: Arizona State's forthcoming law school. Encouraged by his father, he seized the chance and embarked on a legal career.

Beyond his legal endeavors, Robert has contributed extensively to his community. His involvement with the Tempe Union High School Education Foundation's Board of Directors from 1995 to 2005 and leadership roles at the Tempe YMCA underscore his commitment to enhancing education and community well-being.
