He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Nicholls State University, Thibodaux, Louisiana. He previously held a real estate broker's license and his present practice concentrates on personal injury, workers' compensation, family law, business litigation and real estate and construction disputes. While attending Loyola Law School, Rusty Savoie was selected as a member of the school's moot court competition team.

Rusty Savoie previously lived in Washington, D.C. where he worked for the U.S. House of Representatives. He is a former partner with one of the largest law firms in the State of Louisiana based in New Orleans. Following that, he served as in-house counsel to a large, publicly-traded corporation based in Covington, Louisiana with over 3,500 employees. He has since opened his own practice in Covington and Houma. In 2009, Rusty Savoie was appointed an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Covington, Louisiana.
