Andrea Ruth Gundersen is a Partner in the firm's Fort Lauderdale West office. She was born and raised in Massachusetts and settled in South Florida with her two children in 1989, as a single parent, when she came down to attend law school. Ms. Gundersen received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, graduating with honors from Boston University in 1987. She then went on to be an Administrator at Brigham & Women’s Hospital before making the decision to attend law school in 1989. She received her Juris Doctor from Nova University School of Law in 1992 and was admitted to practice law in Florida in 1992. After graduating from law school, she dedicated her practice to helping families through the system and keeping children out of the system.
Ms. Gundersen is a Martindale-Hubbell AV rated attorney practicing for over 30 years, and had her own law practice for over 17 years before 17being elected to the Circuit Court bench in November 2016 where she served as a Circuit Court Judge for the 17th Circuit for Broward County from 2017-2023. While assigned to the Family bench, she launched the Collaborative Law Pilot Project to assist pro se litigants to resolve their conflicts through agreement rather than litigation. Prior to taking the bench, her work experience included practicing family law, criminal law, domestic violence, dependency and delinquency and personal injury.
Ms. Gundersen was the Vice President of the South Broward Bar Association and the Past President of the West Broward Bar Section. She also serves on the Professionalism Committee and a past member of the Bench & Bar Committee. Prior to taking the bench, she also served as the Vice Chair of the 17th Judicial Circuit Professionalism Panel, which oversees unprofessional conduct of attorneys in Broward County.
